For Immediate Release                                                             NEWS RELEASE

ACT Releases SNAsim™ - A Portable SNA 3270 and 5250 Host Simulation Tool
for
SNA Gateway Benchmarking Right at Your Desktop PC

Garland, Texas, May 27, 1998 - Applied Computer Technology (ACT), a leading provider of complete, cost-effective network and protocol testing solutions, announced the availability of SNAsim today. SNAsim is a PC-based SNA host simulator, which conducts high performance, real-world SNA testing using SDLC, Token Ring, or Ethernet communication links. Ready-to-run tests are provided with SNAsim for protocol conformance, verification, functionality, performance/stress testing, and host application emulation using real 3270 and 5250 data streams. SNAsim was designed to create a realistic, sophisticated and thorough test environment which enables end-users to perform product evaluations of 3270, 5250, and SNA gateway products. This portable, yet versatile tool is ideal for SNA traffic generation, network problem determination, and SNA gateway benchmark testing. SNAsim can also be used for product demonstrations and installation verification.

SNAsim offers users of SNA Server, NetWare for SAA, and Communications Server an easy-to-use method to perform verification and stress testing. Using data provided by SNAsim's verification and performance tests, products can be evaluated and new releases can be compared with previous versions before deployment. Users can now verify that the performance capacities of their servers will meet their needs both now and in the future. SNAsim can be used to measure the performance of single or multiple LUs and PUs, and examine the performance of gateways, routers, FRAD's, or other intermediate network components - as well as measure the end-to-end performance of complex networks.

"Evaluating the performance and scalability of an SNA gateway is typically a complex and challenging task," said Burt Gearhart, President of ACT. "Benchmarking tests frequently involve the configuration of large-scale hosts and elaborate network set-ups, and the execution of tests is limited to only the largest customers and gateway vendors. To enable smaller organizations to perform SNA gateway benchmarking, ACT developed SNAsim to run right from a desktop," says Gearhart.

SNAsim is available with a choice of four configurations: INTRO - 1 PU and 1 LU, LITE - 1 PU and 4 LUs, STANDARD - 1 PU and 64 LUs, and PRO - 16 PUs and 1024 LUs. A free working version of SNAsim INTRO is available at: http:/www.acomtech.com/actdemo.html. SNAsim ranges in price from $995 to $6,995 for a single user license. A scripting facility is also available in the PRO version of SNAsim to create additional tests.

SNAsim runs on Windows 95, Windows NT or DOS 6.x platforms. SDLC communications require an SDLC adapter and can operate at speeds up to 56k bps. LAN communications require an Ethernet or Token Ring adapter with NDIS or 802.2 LLC drivers.

SNAsim is Year 2000 compliant, and is designed to accurately process dates greater than 1999. The product's date-based functionality will operate consistently in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Applied Computer Technology (ACT), founded in 1981, and headquartered in Garland, Texas, is a leading provider of complete, cost-effective network and protocol testing solutions. ACT's other testing products include SDTF™, a PC-based SNA network testing tool, and ITF™, a PC-based TCP/IP TN validation testing software.
