Guidelines for SNA and TCP/IP TN Testing
- Tests should be thoroughly documented and validated
- Tests should be 'black box' and non-intrusive
- Tests should provide comprehensive 'coverage'
- Tests should be both 'sunny' and 'rainy' day
- Test results should be completely and easily reproducible
- Tests should provide reports containing results and
performance measurements
- Tests should provide scalable performance
- Tests should contain problem determination facilities
- Tests should be easy to operate
- SNA Tests should be operable with SDLC, Token Ring,
Ethernet, or X.25 QLLC
- TCP/IP Tests should be operable with SLIP, PPP, Ethernet,
or Token Ring
- Applicable RFCs should be tested
- Hardware requirements should be minimal
- If intermediate network components are being tested,
tests should be operable with and without the
intermediate network components ( i.e. gateways, bridges,
routers, LLC convertors, FRADs, etc.) and provide
comparative results
- Tests should be publicly or commercially available
